ITP Workshop on Geometry and Physics

There is a workshop on geometry and physics being held at the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP), Santa Barbara, July 26 - August 13, 1999. The topics are related to the recent fruitful interaction between mathematicians and physicists in the general area of string duality. The goal is to promote and enhance such interaction.

The workshop will include lectures on mathematics for physicists, lectures on physics for mathematicians, and advanced seminars. Lectures have been organized into mini-courses of 3-5 lectures each to allow for a more pedagogical presentation.

The participants range from graduate students and postdocs through senior researchers in both fields.

The workshop was proceeded by the Santa Barbara Summer Conference in Geometry, held at the U. C. Santa Barbara Math Department, July 21-24, 1999.

This workshop is a successor to one held at ITP in January, 1998, and also to the special year in Quantum Field Theory held at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1996-97. Lecture notes and audio recordings of many of the lectures from the January '98 workshop are available, as well as lecture notes from the IAS special year. Two volumes from that year, entitled Quantum Fields and Strings: A Course for Mathematicians, will be published by the American Mathematical Society in late July.
